Welcome to the home of the Columbia Thunder 9U! We’re a 9U travel baseball team, based in Columbia, South Carolina.
We are the first “Friends of Trenholm” travel ball team. What does that mean? Trenholm Little League, which is also based in Columbia, South Carolina, in its December board meeting voted to become a “travel ball friendly” league. This means that Trenholm Little League will allow for some time away from our league for players to play for travel ball teams that are considered to be “Friends of Trenholm” without consequence from their Trenholm teams. TLL will do this by not scheduling games on predetermined days and weekends in divisions, so that those “Friends of Trenholm” travel ball teams can play in tournaments.
The Columbia Thunder 9U team currently consists of twelve Trenholm Little League players. Eleven of the twelve players were members of the 2014 South Carolina District 3 Coaches Pitch Champion Trenholm Blue All Star Team. The twelfth player was a member of the 2014 Trenholm Red All Star Team. The Trenholm Blue team also went 4-1 in State Pool Play and were the only team to beat the eventual South Carolina State Coaches Pitch Champions, the Tega Cay Titans.
The Columbia Thunder 9U has played in two USSSA tournaments. In only its second tournament ever, the Thunder 9U finished runner-up in the March 14-15 Gameday USSSA/Gameon Sports Rawlings Swing Into Spring Tournament. The Thunder 9U finished second out of six teams in the tournament, winning its first two games before losing the championship.
The Thunder 9U will play in at least two more USSSA tournaments in Lexington this season; April 25-26 and May 30-31.
